Save Money on Your Premises Costs - Workshop
This workshop will be run by GMCVO in partnership with the Ethical Property Foundation and will cover a range of topics relating to property, and discuss approaches to addressing these to support your organisation in managing premises.
The Ethical Property Foundation provides a Property Advice Service offering independent, ethical property advice and training to charities, community groups and social enterprises across England and Wales. The Foundation delivers training on a wide range of property issues, from how to green your building through to successfully running the gauntlet of a lease negotiation. As with all of their services, these training sessions are specifically geared to the needs of charities, community and voluntary groups and social enterprises.
The session will cover areas such as:
* Leasing premises: Finding premises, negotiating a lease, common problem areas such as rent review and break clauses, reviewing or terminating your lease
* Managing your premises: saving money, planning maintenance, building management, compliance (health and safety, risk assessments etc.), legal issues, greening your workplace, managing tenants
* Saving money: Finding the right premises, cutting premises costs (rent, service charges, service contracts), managing and maintaining premises, generating income from premises (subletting, renting out sessional space)
* Relocating premises: all the things that you might need to consider if you are going to relocate. This will cover everything from Heads of Terms right through to how to move in on the day and not to forget to cancel the milk! She can also discuss document management, filing and storage - what real differences you can make to your organisation through properly managing it in terms of efficiency, freeing up space, reducing risk etc.
The session will be tailored to fit the participating groups and the Foundation will be able to spend more or less time on various issues depending on the needs of the attendees.
The Foundation will also be offering one to one advice sessions with their property advisers after the training, and may also be able to bring along members from their Register of property professionals (who provide pro bono and discounted help to the organisations they work with), depending on demand. If you would like to book an advice session, please provide brief details of your issue and whether you would like to speak to an adviser or other professional. The Foundation team will then be able to arrange for relevant professionals to attend.
